A clean BBQ:
Cooks more evenly
Reduces smoke and flare‑ups
Prevents rust (a major issue in Irish weather)
Extends the life of your grill
Keeps food tasting fresh instead of burnt
Turn on your gas BBQ or light your charcoal for 10–15 minutes. This burns off loose food and softens grease.
If you’re cleaning a cold grill, skip this step — but expect to scrub more.
Use a stiff BBQ brush to scrub the grates while they’re warm.
If the grates are removable, wash them in warm, soapy water for a deeper clean.
Turn off the gas supply. Remove burner covers, brush away debris, and check for blocked holes.
Blocked burners cause uneven heat and flare‑ups.
Once the BBQ is fully cool, empty the ash catcher and brush out leftover dust.
Ash absorbs moisture — a big rust risk in Ireland.
Scrape away grease and carbon buildup. Wipe the inside with warm, soapy water.
Avoid harsh chemicals — they can damage the finish.
Use a soft cloth and mild detergent to clean the outside.
For stainless steel, always wipe with the grain.
Once dry, lightly coat the grates with cooking oil.
This prevents rust and stops food sticking.
